Major's Hill Wine Estate Major's Hill Wine Estate - Robertson
Major's Hill started in 1994 when the Louw family bought the famous Klipdrift farm, of Klipdrift Brandy fame. The new vineyard and cellar incorporate the old cellars architecturally. Major's Hill takes it name from a previous owner "Major Jacobus Petrus Marais". Winemaker and Partner Alkie van Der Merwe spares no effort in producing some of the most exciting wines we've drunk in a long while. The stylistic aim is to produce wines that taste like the grapes they came from…something of a novelty with many of today's wines! All grapes are harvested BY HAND and selected simultaneously.

GabriëlskloofGabriëlskloof - Botrivier
A modern, impressive cellar has risen on the hills of the farm and with it a restaurant, courtyard and olive press - all complete with 360 degree views over the hills towards mountains and sea. Quality underpins everything at Gabriëlskloof starting with the vineyards that are remote from other growers and therefore virus free. This is an exciting and up and coming ward for South African wines… Luddite and Wildekrans hail from this region with several other promising farms coming onto the radar.

Freedom HillFreedom Hill - Paarl
Originally "Klompzicht" this small 82 ha estate on the Wemmershoek Mountains overlooks the legendary Victor Verster prison in Paarl. It was here that Nelson Mandela took his first steps to freedom- thus heralding a bright new era for the farm - hence the new label. The vines are meticulously grown in Oak leaf soils giving true depth and complexity to top quality red grapes. Only hand selected grapes find their way into their extremely limited productions. In this closed to the public cellar, Francois & Kowie (with 50 years combined experience) age each wine for a minimum 24 months in French Oak to ensure the wines reach peak perfection. Rich in character and generous in flavour, each splendid wine in the range is a tribute to liberty!

BartinneyBartinney - Stellenbosch
3 years ago we were invited to Bartinney by owners Michael & Rose Jordaan. None of their wine was ready yet, but it was in barrel and already impressive! Absolute quality with discernable personality was the goal for the initial release of Chardonnay and Sav Blanc, and they achieved it in abundance. Situated on the hellish high slopes of Helshoogte Pass in Stellenbosch (neighbouring Tokara, Thelema and Alluvia), the farm was established by a former Harrod's director in 1920. Michael and Rose purchased the farm for themselves in 2006, and are the 4th generation of their family to farm the property.

Tanzanite Tanzanite - Private
Double Gold Medal winner and winemaker extraordinaire Melanie van der Merwe brings us this beautiful bubbly under her new label, Tanzanite. After making MCC wines for the House of JC le Roux for 11 years, in which time she won countless awards and shone as the Cap Classique queen, Melanie has continued this passion in her own personal capacity. She named the bubbly after her birthstone, the rare, beautiful and highly sought after Tanzanite, which she says expresses her passion for creating unique sparkling wines in the time-honoured, traditional way.

Welgemeend EstateWelgemeend Estate - Paarl
Welgemeend made an important contribution to the history of the South African wine industry; being the first in SA to produce a Bordeaux blend (1979)! The tiny Estate (11 hectares under vine) is situated in Klapmuts, Paarl. Welgemeend only produces red wine due to unique soil and climatic conditions. The name Welgemeend translates to "well intended" and that is what the estate is about, a small farm with a group of people committed to the highest quality. The majority of wines produced are done so in a style that lends itself well to aging, and our selection of choice vintages expresses maturity and integration perfectly.

Nelsons Wine EstateNelsons Wine Estate - Paarl
This is a beautiful and elegant wine estate situated in the outskirts of Paarl. In pursuit of a childhood dream, Alan Nelson acquired the farm in 1987 and set about the daunting task of restoring it to its former glory. The Estate was crowned "Champion Wine Estate" and "Private Producer in the Boland Region" in 1996. Since then the Estate has gone from strength to strength and at the end of 2007, Alan appointed his eldest daughter, Lisa Nelson as the resident winemaker. DefinitumDefinitum
Born when 3 friends came together to share their passion and love for wine, Definitum is a true gem. This is a project wine, produced on a small scale and with the minimum of human or mechanical interference. The 3 friends, including Fairview's wine-maker, aim to produce wines of distinctly different styles to the norm, but always at the highest of quality.

This year it's Carignan, but next year could be Zinfandel. Even a seductive blend of exotic cultivars could be on the cards. This is for the wine lover that likes to explore, but has uncompromising standards!

Alluvia - StellenboschAlluvia - Stellenbosch
Nestled in a stunning corner of the Banhoek Valley, neighbouring Thelema, Alluvia is an extremely small boutique vineyard & guesthouse that strives for excellence. Legendary winemaker Bruwer Raats (of Zorgvliet fame) was brought in to ensure the quality of the finished product.

Cape Gable - Stellenbosch

Equitania - Somerset WestEquitania - Somerset West
Equitania is a very small family Private Vineyard on Bredell Road just off the R44. They are part of the Golden Triangle of Red Wines in Stellenbosch / Somerset West, and they are famously known as one of the Hidden Gems by people in the "know" in the wine industry. Equitania's 1.3h vineyard was planted in the year 2000 and they only grow Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. We discovered Equitania at The Wine Show Jo'burg this year and have been hot on their heels to get their wines on our list. We aredelighted to offer them to our private clients as something perfectly created with passion. Their wines beckon to be shared as every glass is a tribute to wine lovers across the globe.

Pax VerbatimPax Verbatim
Richard Hilton is the owner and winemaker at "Pax Verbatim" and he works alongside the people that count most: the growers. He has relationships with a farm in the Helderberg and another in Elgin through whom he channels the fruit of three different blocks of their best vineyards sites. The objective is to craft top quality wines and it is therefore a passion driven out of a desire to unearth finite quantities of the finest single vineyard fruit. Only 600 bottles were made despite increasing demand.

Remhoogte - StellenboschRemhoogte - Stellenbosch
Remhoogte is a small family owned and run estate. It was purchased by Murray and Juliet Boustred in 1994. New vineyards were planted, the existing buildings were restored and a new cellar built. The first wine produced was five barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon in 1995. Production slowly increased and at present 5 000 cases of wine are produced each year. In 2007 Chris Boustred joined the estate as winemaker. After graduating from Stellenbosch University with a degree in Oneology and Viticulture he spent two years working the harvests in Margaret River in Australia and has a passion for Chenin Blanc and Merlot.

Stonehill - Stellenbosch
Stonehill Vineyard is situated at the head of Devon Valley with sweeping views from Simonsberg across to False Bay. Lorna, the owner, planted Cabernet Sauvignon on the property in 1992 and until very recently supplied her grapes to a number of wineries in the Stellenbosch area who made award winning wines from them. Stonehill labels carry a picture of Bristle, Lorna's lovable wire-haired "rescue" doggy found dumped in a rubbish bin as a young pup & nursed back to health. She has a big heart for animals and all her wines carry the AWS (Animal Welfare Society) sticker which ensures a small donation to the society for every bottle sold.

Topaz WineTopaz Wine

IMPORTS:

Lacourte-Godbillon Lacourte-Godbillon (Champagne)
This is a tiny family-owned estate in the heart of Champagne in the village of Ecuiel. Monsieur Lacourte has been the driving force and passion behind some of the best Champagne we've ever had at Frogitt & Vonkel. His cellar is built under the family home and all the bottles are turned by hand twice a day personally. His children now run the marketing for the farm and we are delighted to have it back on our list for the Festive Season. As always we have EXTREMELY limited quantities of his bubbles!!!

Alex (Vinedos de Calidad)Alex (Vinedos de Calidad)
This small producer, Vinedos de Calidad ("Village Winery") labels their best wines under the name "Alex" - a tribute to the oldest son of the owner, Javier Cantarero. Based square on the border of Rioja and Navarra, Javier grows olives on his Rioja land, andgrapes on his Navarra land (you can stand with one foot in Rioja and the other in Navarra). Wines from this part of the world enjoy plenty of Spanish sunshine, but complexity in the wines comes from what, to the naked eye, looks like impossible stone-strewn arid soil.

Bikandi (Vina Olibarri Rioja)Bikandi (Vina Olibarri Rioja)
Bodegas Vina Olabarri was the unexpected highlight of a Director's trip to Rioja. This small, family run estate in some of Rioja's finest terrior dates back to 1898, and houses the majority of its production in a wine cellar excavated in rock and constructed of sand-stone and oak in the tiny village of Anguciana. Vina Olabarri specialise in growing the finest Tempranillo grapes..Spain's noble variety and the very backbone of Riojan reds. The emphasis is on quality here and the majority of production is dedicated to Crianza, Reserva and Gran Reserva wines, with painstaking attention to detail.
